The Alabaster Strong Internship program is designed for local community junior and senior high school students within the Alabaster community that has a desire to learn about the fire service. This hands on paid internship program is looking for students that demonstrate dedication and a strong work ethic * Courage to face challenging situations * Compassion and empathy for others * Teamwork and communication skills * Commitment to safety and integrity.
TESTING DATE: DECEMBER 17,2024
Students who meet the minimum qualifications will have arrangements made to participate in the testing with the local schools.
FIREFIGHTER INTERN SELECTION PROCESS:All applications will be reviewed to ensure minimum qualifications are met. Those meeting minimum qualifications will be invited to complete the written exam administered by Human Resources and a physical abilities test administered by Alabaster Fire Department. Candidates who successfully pass both the written exam and physical ability test will be scheduled for an interview before a panel of representatives from the Alabaster Fire Department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum age 17; Local Alabaster residents (junior or senior level high school, private school or homeschool students) Must have a minimum C average, have 2 letters of recommendation submitted with application. Ability to work 15-20 hours per week from January-June (schedule to be determined based on students school schedule)
MANDATORY PARENT / STUDENT MEETING: A mandatory parent / student meeting will be held December 10th @ 6:00 pm which will require a waiver to be signed by a parent or legal guardian for all who apply to test for the internship program. Working along side our certified firefighters and registered paramedics, this unique opportunity allows for hands on practical exposure to the fire service.
