About the Department
The Alabaster Fire Department is a career fire department serving the City of Alabaster, Alabama. The Department provides fire suppression, advanced life support emergency medical care, technical rescue services, fire code inspections, and public education programs. Our mission is to provide exceptional service while making a meaningful difference in the community we serve.
About the Internship
The Alabaster Strong Internship Program is designed for motivated high school students in the Alabaster community who want to explore the knowledge, skills, discipline, and teamwork required for a career in the fire service. Through guided education and practical experience, interns will gain valuable exposure to one of the most challenging and rewarding public-service professions. This paid internship offers students the opportunity to learn alongside experienced Alabaster Fire Department professionals and begin building a strong foundation for future education, training, and service.
Who May Apply
The program is open to students who live within the Alabaster community, including students attending Thompson High School, private school, or home school.
Minimum Qualifications
Currently enrolled in the 11th or 12th grade
At least 17 years of age and able to provide parental or legal guardian consent
Lives within the Alabaster community
Available to work approximately 15–20 hours per week
Maintains good academic standing
Able to successfully complete a physical examination, background check, and drug screening
