Job Title: Administration Intern (College Student) Department: Administration / Economic Development Location: City of Alabaster Position Type: Internship (Part time- Summer)
Position Overview
The City of Alabaster is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented college student for an Administration Internship. This role is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Public Administration, Business, Marketing, Urban Planning, or a related field.
This internship is designed for college students who are interested in higher-level municipal projects involving data analysis, research, communications, and strategic planning. The selected candidate will play a key role in supporting several impactful city initiatives while gaining hands-on experience in local government operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Public Safety Academy Development
Collaborate with city staff, Alabaster Police Department (APD), and Alabaster Fire Department (AFD) personnel
Compile and organize data to help structure academy class sessions and schedules
Assist in developing promotional materials and visual graphics
Work with IT to support the creation of an online application landing page
2. Economic Health Indicator Dashboard
Research and analyze economic dashboards used by other municipalities
Identify and recommend key metrics that reflect community economic health
Collaborate with Finance and IT to gather and integrate data
Assist in designing a user-friendly, visually engaging dashboard for presentation to City Council and community stakeholders
3. Economic Development Website Updates
Update and enhance the Economic Development section of the city website
Add new and existing residential development projects
Create individual webpages for each residential project, including:
Update maps and improve overall site graphics and usability
Preferred Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a college or university program in Public Administration, Business, Marketing, Urban Planning, Communications, or a related field
Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills
Experience or familiarity with data visualization tools, dashboards, or graphic design (e.g., Canva, Adobe, GIS, or similar tools)
Ability to present information in a clear, visually engaging format
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
