Position Overview

The City of Alabaster is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented college student for an Administration Internship. This role is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Public Administration, Business, Marketing, Urban Planning, or a related field.

This internship is designed for college students who are interested in higher-level municipal projects involving data analysis, research, communications, and strategic planning. The selected candidate will play a key role in supporting several impactful city initiatives while gaining hands-on experience in local government operations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Public Safety Academy Development
  • Collaborate with city staff, Alabaster Police Department (APD), and Alabaster Fire Department (AFD) personnel
  • Compile and organize data to help structure academy class sessions and schedules
  • Assist in developing promotional materials and visual graphics
  • Work with IT to support the creation of an online application landing page
2. Economic Health Indicator Dashboard
  • Research and analyze economic dashboards used by other municipalities
  • Identify and recommend key metrics that reflect community economic health
  • Collaborate with Finance and IT to gather and integrate data
  • Assist in designing a user-friendly, visually engaging dashboard for presentation to City Council and community stakeholders
3. Economic Development Website Updates
  • Update and enhance the Economic Development section of the city website
  • Add new and existing residential development projects
  • Create individual webpages for each residential project, including:
    • Project descriptions and timelines
    • Visual graphics (home renderings, subdivision layouts, etc.)
  • Update maps and improve overall site graphics and usability

Preferred Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program in Public Administration, Business, Marketing, Urban Planning, Communications, or a related field
  • Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Experience or familiarity with data visualization tools, dashboards, or graphic design (e.g., Canva, Adobe, GIS, or similar tools)
  • Ability to present information in a clear, visually engaging format
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
