Position Type: Internship (Part time- Summer)
The City of Alabaster is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented college student for an Administration Internship. This role is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Public Administration, Business, Marketing, Urban Planning, or a related field.
This internship is designed for college students who are interested in higher-level municipal projects involving data analysis, research, communications, and strategic planning. The selected candidate will play a key role in supporting several impactful city initiatives while gaining hands-on experience in local government operations.
1. Public Safety Academy Development
- Collaborate with city staff, Alabaster Police Department (APD), and Alabaster Fire Department (AFD) personnel
- Compile and organize data to help structure academy class sessions and schedules
- Assist in developing promotional materials and visual graphics
- Work with IT to support the creation of an online application landing page
- Research and analyze economic dashboards used by other municipalities
- Identify and recommend key metrics that reflect community economic health
- Collaborate with Finance and IT to gather and integrate data
- Assist in designing a user-friendly, visually engaging dashboard for presentation to City Council and community stakeholders
- Update and enhance the Economic Development section of the city website
- Add new and existing residential development projects
- Create individual webpages for each residential project, including:
- Project descriptions and timelines
- Visual graphics (home renderings, subdivision layouts, etc.)
- Update maps and improve overall site graphics and usability
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program in Public Administration, Business, Marketing, Urban Planning, Communications, or a related field
- Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills
- Experience or familiarity with data visualization tools, dashboards, or graphic design (e.g., Canva, Adobe, GIS, or similar tools)
- Ability to present information in a clear, visually engaging format
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
