Position provides a variety of support for functions, programs, and services in one of the largest growing cities in Shelby County. Position includes the following:

The purpose of this position is to shelve books and other materials, assists library staff as directed, and retrieves general materials for patrons. This position will work 10 hours per week, with no additional hours available. You must be able to work 2 – 3 hours in the afternoons per week and 1 to 2 weekends per month.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
1. Sorts and shelves library materials in alphabetical and numerical order per library classification system.
2. Maintains accuracy and neat appearance of materials on the shelves, material racks, and displays.
3. Retrieves materials from outside book and DVD drop.
4. Retrieves materials from shelves and other areas as needed.
5. Searches for missing materials.
6. Performs cleaning duties such as dusting, cleaning surfaces, shifting shelves and materials, etc.)
7. “Reads” shelves to assure materials are in the correct place and order.
8. Assists library staff with other duties as assigned.

Physical requirements include the following: Vision necessary to see and read titles and numbers of books. The physical activities required for this position involve: Must be able to occasionally climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to reach and lift materials. Must be able to maneuver a loaded book truck weighing up to 100 pounds. Must be able to lift and move books and materials in order to place in appropriate location on shelves. This position requires lifting: Up to 25 pounds frequently; up to 50 pounds occasionally. The following physical conditions and hazards may be encountered while working in this position: Exposure to dust and dirt.
